Losing hair because of
pregnancy is normal. Women experience this during pregnancy and after it too. As a side effect of pregnancy, along with a number of changes, hair loss is a common one due to the hormones. Telogen effluvium is the excess of hair loss that occurs even a few months following pregnancy. This is because the body is only focusing on the pregnancy above anything else.
During pregnancy, women obtain beautiful hair because the natural shedding process is interrupted. So, the loss that occurs in the following months is just a natural process taking up its roll. Hair loss during pregnancy is related to hormonal imbalance, due to which it is temporary. As the hormones return to normal, so does the
hair growth. During pregnancy, a number of hairs go into their resting phase, which means they have grown to the maximum and rest there until its time for them to fall off. This is the normal hair cycle that everyone goes through. This condition is not permanent and diminishes within 2-5 months of pregnancy.
The activity of hormones is at peak during pregnancy so, normally, 3 months after pregnancy, the hormonal activity returns to normal the level. The hair that is supposed to fall out is resting and during these 3 months, all the resting hair tends to fall out. However, this loss of hair may worsen over the months but, is temporary. This loss is replaced in a period of 6-12 months.
The body stimulates a hormone known as the estrogen hormone. Its function is to stimulate the growth of hair and to keep it in its growing phase. During pregnancy, the level of estrogen hormones increases hence, giving the women beautiful luxuries hair. The imbalance of this hormone triggers hair fall. It may also occur due to discontinuation of any type of birth control method, miscarriage or abortion.
These problems can, however, be tackled. Your
diet must contain fruits and vegetables, which contain flavonoids, which stimulate hair growth and provide protection to the hair. A doctor should be consulted to ensure proper hormonal balance. Also, it will be less
stressful for your hair if you keep changing your hair style and avoid pulling your hair. Shampoos and conditioners which have a high level of biotin and silica should be used.
